The sky remained blue as residents from Dubbo and further afield enjoyed the show’s offerings from Friday to Sunday.

The weather drew the crowds, with a large number of people streaming through the gates.

Dubbo Show Society president Chris Edwards said it had been an overwhelmingly positive weekend.

“I doubt over the 144 years of the Dubbo Show if we’d ever had weather as nice as we do now,” he said.

While he hadn’t had a chance to see the figures for the number of people who attended across the three days, Mr Edwards said he was pleased.

There had also been high numbers of entrants in the judging, he said, particularly in the showjumping.

Rose Broughton was crowed as the 2017 Dubbo Showgirl, while Maree Pobje was the Teenage Showgirl.

For the first time the Show Society also held a Rural Achiever Competition, which was won by Lauren Amor.

Guest speaker for the show was Lieutenant Colonel Scott Morris, who said it was a wonderful day, wonderful weather and a wonderful event. 

Like many of the people in the crowd, Mr Morris said he had fond memories of the show, from watching his father and grandfather on the committee, judging and participating, to scraping together money as a child to spend on rides.

While he found it hard to narrow down his favourite part of the show, Show president Mr Edwards said he liked seeing the young people getting involved with the livestock.

Other highlights for the president included the animal nursery, the Rooftop Express and the entertainment.

The show attracted entrants from far and wide, including NSW Governor General David Hurley. Mr Hurley was among the large number of people who submitted honey to be judged.

And while the Dubbo Show may have wrapped up for another year, it was almost time to begin planning for the 145th one.

“We’ll need a couple of days of rest. But you’re sort of always thinking about it over the couple of days. You see stuff happen and you think ‘we could do that differently’,” Mr Edwards said.
