But this weekend it will be all about a splash of pink as the Dubbo Basketball Association hosts it’s annual charity night where funds are raised for the Pink Angels, a service which provides support for local cancer sufferers.
The main part of the fundraising day will be the annual police versus ambulance match where local officers from both services take to the court before the Waratah League match between the Dubbo Rams and St George at 5pm.
This marks the fourth year of the annual charity match which is played in a fun and friendly spirit and provides plenty of entertainment but there is also plenty of bragging rights on the line.
Set to be played from 3pm, the match will see the ambulance officers try and repeat last year’s thrilling victory but word around the traps is police officers, led by Rob Jackson and Jason Blake, are ready to gain revenge.
As well as the charity match there will also be a monster meat raffle for everyone in attendance with all funds on the day going straight to the Pink Angels.
A bumper crowd is expected to be on hand for the charity match, with everyone asked to wear something pink and help in the fundraising for a very worthy cause.
All those in the stands are certain to remain for the main event at 5pm as the Rams chase a sixth Waratah League win of the season.
It won’t come easy for Damien Reid and his men as the St George Saints have won seven from 11 this season.
The most dangerous aspect of Saturday’s visitors is the fact the Saints have scored the most points of any side so far this season.
St George has scored 887 points so far this year, with only three other sides in the 23-team competition having gone past the 800 point mark so far.
Shutting down that attack will obviously be key to the Rams’ chances but the Dubbo side has proven it’s ability to muscle up in defence time and time again already this year.
American import and star player Conrad Etchi will again be vital for Dubbo, having dropped 80 points in the past two matches, but the likes of the ever-improving Shayne Brown and older heads Damien Reid and Michael Bonney will again have a job to do.
The match will also be an interesting one for guard Benjamin Wilkin, who played with the Saints before making the switch to Dubbo a couple of seasons ago.
Tip-off is 5pm Saturday at the Woolshed.
