The Dubbo woman has been involved in parkrun – a free, timed, weekly fitness initiative – since 2013, and introduced it to Dubbo in 2015.
This weekend she will run her 100th parkrun, just weeks before the local event turns two. She has also volunteered 47 times.
“It’s a pretty big achievement for me, especially having the volunteering stats to go with it,” Ms Tan said.
She has run at about 30 different parkrun events, including in England, Singapore, Tasmania, Victoria and across the Central West.
“It’s taken a long time to get there … but there’s other things I’m proud of.”
Those things include the long list of people keen to volunteer at Dubbo parkrun, and the satisfaction locals have been getting from the event. Some locals are nearing 90 parkruns at Dubbo, Ms Tan said, and the pride was evident on the faces of everyone who achieved a goal at parkrun.
“It’s nice that Dubbo can feel part of [the parkrun] community.”
