Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries welcomed the announcement that Broken Hill City Council, Cobar Shire Council and Walgett Shire Council, have been successful applicants in the Fixing Country Truck Washes program.

Broken Hill received $700,000 for its truck wash, the facility at Walgett Saleyards will get a $502,000 upgrade and Cobar has received $475,000 for its wash bay.

Mr Humphries said the funding for the truck washes would provide safety, productivity, and environmental benefits to the local community.

“This is an essential industry to the state’s economy and I’m delighted that projects in the Barwon Electorate have been successful. It will go a long way to improving productivity for local farmers,” Kevin Humphries said.

“This funding is designed to build an efficient freight transport network across regional NSW by focusing on hotspots where truck washing facilities and effluent disposal don’t currently meet the needs of truck operators.”

26 projects across country NSW will share in the $10 million joint initiative between the NSW and Australian Governments to build and upgrade truck wash-out facilities.

“All projects underwent a detailed evaluation process, first by a Technical Panel chaired by Transport for NSW and then by the Infrastructure NSW’s Regional Independent Assessment Panel with representatives from across the freight industry,” Mr Humphries said.

“All successful applicants will be advised on the next steps for obtaining the funds in consultation/collaboration with local councils.”
