Her armed attacker threatened her, took cash and fled when several tradesmen came to her aid and chased him from the Erskine Street car park.
The woman was taken to Dubbo Hospital with minor injuries and shock.
Orana Local Area Command crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Rod Blackman, said the woman was in her vehicle when she was approached by an armed man who assaulted and threatened her and took a quantity of cash.
He said several tradesmen came to the aid of the victim before pursuing the offender as he fled down a lane way behind the Western Star Hotel.
The man escaped and was last seen heading west on Erskine Street in a charcoal coloured Holden commodore.
“At this stage I won’t go into the details about the nature of that weapon but certainly it was a case of he was armed at the time,” Detective Chief Inspector Blackman said
Police appealed to the public for information.
The man has been described as being of average height, medium build, Aboriginal appearance and having a distinctively long rat’s-tail.
"We do appeal to members of the public for information. All our investigations rely on witness accounts so we encourage people to come forward and help us fill some of the gaps within the investigation,” Detective Chief Inspector Blackman said.
“What I can say is a second male was taken to Dubbo Police Station and he has assisted us with our inquiries thus far and of course we’ve spoken to a number of other witnesses.”
He praised the tradesmen who helped the victim.
“I know a lot of people are often standoffish in these sort of incidents but I like to pride ourselves on a good country town where people actually do stand up and be counted for, and this is a very good example where people are quite open in their active involvement and won’t tolerate these sort of serious matters in our town,” he said.
