Advocates from Cancer Council NSW will be hitting the pavement from 9am with a petition calling for a minimum of 10 more full time palliative doctors.
Cancer Council Western NSW community programs coordinator Camilla Thompson said the number of palliative specialists in NSW was below national recommendations.
“The endorsement of local businesses and organisations adds significant weight to this campaign, plus we can get more information out to community members and highlight why we need more palliative care specialists,” she said.
“We are all affected by cancer in some way and at some stage of our lives, and it is terrible to think that there are not enough palliative care staff to assist those facing terminal illness.”
Cancer Council NSW is aiming for 15,000 signatures on the petition, having already surpassed their initial goal of 10,000.
More palliative care nurses and doctors were needed, Ms Barlow said, and the petition would be strengthened with the support of Dubbo businesses.
The advocates hope businesses will be happy to sign the campaign pledge and display it in their shop front to show they care for palliative care.
