Hansen Yuncken has toy cranes and T-shirts to hand out along with a $1000 hardware gift voucher for the school attended by the competition winner.
The winner, his or her family and school principal will be invited to attend a crane-naming ceremony at a date to be announced.
The company and the hospital’s redevelopment team have launched the competition with a deadline of 5pm May 26.
Primary school students in Dubbo, Wellington, Gilgandra, Narromine and “smaller towns in between” are eligible to enter the competition.
Dubbo Hospital general manager Debbie Bickerton said the “enormous crane” needed a name.
“To enter the competition, students need to think of a creative name for the crane and tell us why they chose that name as well as colour in the entry form,” she said.
Ms Bickerton said some of the best entry forms would be displayed in the hospital’s corridors.
Construction of the third storey on the clinical services building represents a start to the $150 million stage three and four redevelopment of the hospital.
Ms Bickerton said a similar competition, run three years ago during the $91.3 million stage one and two redevelopment of the hospital, got a “terrific” response.
“Everyone at the hospital really enjoyed all the great pictures and name ideas that our students submitted in 2014, and we are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to our primary students once again,” she said.
Forms have been sent out to eligible primary schools. Students can also collect an entry form from Dubbo Hospital or download it at www.dubbohospitalredevelopment.health.nsw.gov.au.
Only one entry per child is permitted.
