One by one visitors arrived by the car, bus and train load, kitted out in bell bottom pants, jumpsuits, mini skirts, platform heels, bell sleeve dresses, ponchos and sequins.
It’s this atmosphere and nostalgia that keeps bringing a certain group from the Central West back year after year.
The group of 30 people – from Dubbo, Molong and Manildra – attended their third ABBA festival this year, taking place on Saturday, May 6.
They occupied 15 campsites at the Trundle Racecourse.
Ken Whitla of Dubbo said the friendly people and the atmosphere was what they loved about the festival.
“It’s just a good weekend,” he said.
There’s also that deeper connection to the past, especially for Donna Pilon and Michelle Morris, also of Dubbo.
“You can go back to your younger days,” Michelle said.
“And there’s no kids around to feel embarrassed by us.”
Donna agreed.
“It brings back good childhood memories,” she said.
“That’s what it does for us girls – the boys do it because we tell them to,” Michelle laughed.
“They do it and they love it,” Donna added, “and it’s helping a little town.”
