It is estimated 1500 people attended the fair at St Brigid’s Church Hall in Dubbo where some 15,000 books went on sale. One man was so eager to get his hands on a special two-volume Don Bradman set he arrived half an hour before the doors opened.
Book fair coordinator Peter Bartley said $11,407.75 was raised and will be donated to two charity services.
“We matched our best year ever again and we’re very, very happy with that result,” he said.
“To make over $11,000 in one day is fantastic, we are very thankful to the Dubbo and regional public that came and we’ll be delighted to give half of that to the Royal Flying Doctor Services and half to cancer research.”
Charlotte Egan, daughter of the late Michael Egan, attended in support of the fair.
“Charlotte was the family representative this year and she was joined by Michael’s parents-in-law, Bob and Pat Horwood from Maclean,” Mr Bartley said.
