Guthrie won the regional media section at the recent Steve Waugh and Belinda Clark Medal presentation for his coverage of the Orana Outlaws success in the Plan B Regional Bash competition.
Guthrie was overseas at the time of the presentation dinner, so Matt Ellis from Cricket NSW was on hand to present the award at special morning tea in the Daily Liberal office on Tuesday.
Ellis said the win was not only a great boost for Guthrie, but also recognition of the fact that the achievements of the region’s cricketers are being put out into the community.
“The respect Nick has gained in the cricketing community from fellow players has been well-earned and not something he should take for granted,” Ellis said.
“It’s something he has worked really hard to achieve.
“The quality of Nick’s work has been noticed in Sydney, particularly around the coverage of the Plan B Regional Bash and the success that Western Zone has had on the field.
“It has been great for that to be out there and recognised.
“People might think a lot of the things that happen out here go unnoticed but it’s great to see that something like this has happened for Nick.
“It is also a sign that people in Sydney are taking notice of western zone cricket, and the great work Nick and the other staff at the Liberal are doing to get the message out there about how well our guys are playing
