The conversation was sparked after former deputy mayor Ben Shields said the 100 extra car spaces planned for the hospital would be a 'drop in the ocean'.
Health Infrastructure, which is managing the redevelopment, said the extra parking will be sufficient and meet the needs of future developments. But, over 90 per cent of respondents to a Daily Liberal online opinion poll said it would not be enough.
Comments were still being posted on the Liberal’s Facebook page on Friday:
Heather Purvis: Take note of the atrocious lack of parking at virtually every major NSW hospital facility... Dubbo will be no different. Make the changes now. Patients and visitors don't need the stress that goes with finding an elusive park. Upwards of 1000 car parks to start with immediately, increasing in number as the hospital campus increases.
Samantha Stoddard: They need to build a multi-level car park.
John William Mason: Dubbo is in a car parking crisis. Not just at the hospital. But in every location you go to – train station, airport shopping centres. The answer is increased public transport. People today are even too lazy to park their cars in their own driveways. Oh I just park out in the gutter too much trouble to be opening and closing gates. These places will always have inadequate parking positions. Don't blame council all the time look at yourselves first. Do I need that car when we could have better public transport.
Kristen Maree: The NSW Health Department and government bodies need to understand that Dubbo services a bigger area than most other hospitals in NSW. Hence why we are wanting a bigger car park. If it has to be paid parking for there to be a multi-storey so be it. Majority of private health insurance covers car parking and if they kept it cheap enough why would there be an issue? You can't expect to get something for nothing in this day and age especially with the government we have unfortunately. Maybe $5 every three hours and the first three hours are free? Similar to a shopping centre car park.
