About 4.25pm on Thursday, police were called to Opal Street, Lightning Ridge, following reports of a stolen vehicle.
Responding officers spotted the stolen Toyota Landcruiser, and a pursuit began when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed.
Road spikes were successfully deployed by officers and the vehicle came to a stop, however the male driver fled and was pursued on foot by police.
He allegedly resisted police and officers were forced to deploy capsicum spray during his arrest.
The 37-year-old was taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with a number of driving offences including police pursuit – not stop – Skye’s Law, take/drive conveyance, trespass, drive with expired licence and outstanding warrants.
He was refused bail and will appear in Walgett Local Court today.
