Barwon MP Kevin Humphries said it was a positive step for the facility and the community.
“Construction activities have been focusing on the two new Residential Aged Care wings, extending to the east and south of the existing acute and Residential Aged Care sections,” Mr Humphries said.
“The concrete pour for the two new wings is now complete, which is an important milestone for the project, and will pave the way for the build to move up from the ground.”
Concrete used for construction had been sourced from a Coolah business, Mr Humphries said, and where possible, local tradespeople were being used for construction.
“Once the new wings are complete, they will have views over Coolah and the surrounding countryside, and will aim to replicate a home-like environment for the residents of the MPS,” Mr Humphries said.
The Coolah MPS redevelopment project moves 20 existing residential aged care beds into one location, as well as refurbishing the existing inpatient area to improve functionality.
It will include the construction of new buildings as well as the refurbishment of existing buildings.
“In exciting news for the MPS, the scope of the redevelopment has been expanded to include the refurbishment of the existing building to incorporate a new GP clinic,” Mr Humphries said.
“It will include two rooms and a treatment room, enabling the current GP services to be increased and the option of a GP registrar to work out of the MPS.
“The new GP clinic will be located at the front of the existing MPS.
“It will be incorporated into the later stages of the redevelopment, which will also include the development of a new front entry to the MPS.”
The redevelopment contract was announced in November 2016, with the build awarded to Zauner Construction carrying out the main works construction at the Coolah.
