Western Region Traffic Tactician Inspector Peter McMenamin confirmed five of those infringements were for seatbelts, and 42 for speeding. Both offences attracted double demerits throughout the operation.
Over 2100 breath tests were conducted in the Orana LAC, contributing to the 19,544 conducted across the Western Region which produced 43 positive readings.
Inspector McMenamin said he was happy the region was fatality free.
“Obviously I’m still disappointed with the sheer number of seatbelt and speeding tickets issued across the region,” he said.
“When you look at the statistics across the whole region there were 55 seatbelt infringements and 615 for speeding – that’s a lot of infringement notices.”
Operation Go Slow ran from April 21 to 25.
