Hyland doesn’t get as many opportunities to have a shot at the club these days as he used to so everyone in attendance was pleased to see him not only in action but also in top form, finishing as a worthy winner.
Nine members took part in what proved to be a very competitive contest. The Black Powder International match consisted of thirteen shots fired off within a 30 minute time limit. The best ten shots were then scored.
Hyland came in with an aggregate score of 95 (65, 30). Second was Brian McMullen with 94 (64, 30) and third to Terry Greer with 92 (62, 30).
Other scores were Adam Bell 84 (64, 20), Bob Dowling 84 (84, 0 – best off pistol score that suffered because Dowling is such an excellent shot), Warren Johnson 82 (52, 30), Dave Coleman 80 (60, 20), Ryan Johnson-McNeil 79 (49, 30) and John Cohen 72 (42, 30).
The club has been a hive of activity this past week with Air Pistol hled on Thursday evening, Small Bore Rifle on Saturday and Centrefire/Sports Pistol contested on the Sunday.
Three members competed in 10 Metre Air Pistol. Martin Cook took first with 572 (524, 48), Warren Johnson was second with 555 (489, 66) and Bob Dowling came in third.
The 50 Metre Small Bore Rifle competition attracted five members. Mike Root took first with 597 (578, 19), Kevin Sippel was second with 595 (594, 1) and Bob Dowling third with 592 (591, 1). Doug Jump (587, 3) and Peter Caligeros (584, 6) both scored 590.
25 Metre Centrefire/Sports Pistol had a slightly better roll-up this week with nine members on the line.
Travis Johnston was first with 584 (463, 121), Chris Walsh got one over Leanne taking second with 557 (484, 73) and Walsh was third with 553 (458, 95).
Other results were Debbie Kiem 425 (425, visitor), Joan Boyle 445 (300, 145), Bob O’Keeffe 490 (440, 50), Nathan Daniel 373 (373, TBH), Sam Barnes 207 (207, TBH) and Russell Shinn 509 (209, 300).
Next weekend will be the fifth one of the month so a Novelty match will be on offer at the range on Sunday afternoon.
There will be another clean-up next Sunday starting 10am. The club is keen to make the facility sparkling clean in the lead up to the following weekend and club members and helpers are being called upon.
With not a huge amount of work to be done, the poor hands will make the small jobs easier to get done.
There will then be a barbecue lunch on offer for all those who do their part.
The following weekend, May 6 and 7, will be the club’s annual Western Plains Black Powder Championships, which always attracts a high level of competition.
People come from near and far to participate and it is a prestigious event on the NSW pistol association calendar. Spectators and visitors are encouraged to go along to see some of the state’s best in action.
The club also needs volunteers to assist in working at the Black Powder weekend, especially from 8am each morning, to help set things up and ensure the day runs smoothly.
Helpers and committee members are asked to at least attend at some stage of the weekend to do their bit and help out.
