Saturday’s 58-24 loss to the Woodbridge Cup side was a disappointing one for the Castlereagh side, which had shown in previous seasons it was the premier competition outside of Group 11 and Group 10.
But Carney was a standout, scoring Western Rams selection in the process, before doing a job again on Sunday.
He scored three tries as the Magpies made it back-to-back wins by downing the Kangaroos 34-22 while down the road Dunedoo proved too powerful for the Baradine defence and won 44-24.
The remaining game saw the Gulgong Terriers bounce back from their loss to Trangie in round two to register a strong win at home against Coonamble, taking the game 44-16.
Competition leaders Gilgandra had the bye.
