The Paul Braddon-trained flyer started a rock-solid $1.60 favourite for his heat, and showed why when he bolted in by eight-and-a-quarter lengths.
His time of 29.35s was almost half a second quicker than any of the other three heat winners and only 0.05s outside Brad Hill Billy’s course record of 29.30s, recorded in April of last year.
From box seven, the Fabregas x Janderra’s Fury dog was able to cross to the rails early courtesy of a 4.66s first split, and from there it was all over as he proved too good for Slamming Thunder ($5.10) and Kilkee May ($13.20).
The second quickest of the heat winners was the Neil Staines-trained Mitra, which made use of room to its outside to score in a handy enough time of 29.74s.
Starting from box four, and with no runner in box five, the consistent chaser was able to muster early speed out of the boxes to find the front and went on to qualify along with the second-placed Ferrero Miss ($4.70).
The other two heats were won by the John Chapman-trained Almost Black, in a time of 30.00s, and Darren Sultana’s Starburst Bassy, which recorded a time of 29.85s when it scored an upset win as a $16.60 chance in the second qualifier.
The box draw for Friday night’s final, as well as the $10,000 final of the P and B Miller Cup Final, will be conducted on Monday.
