After an enjoyable Easter break and some travelling to the north, it is nice to once again return to Dubbo and reactivate our relationship with the livestock industry and Dubbo in particular.

Agents drew for 4765 head on Thursday, April 20, with an expected offering of 1600 store cattle on Friday.
With sales cancelled on Easter Thursday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day, selling rosters for all centres have been nothing short of chaotic, during the last fortnight.
Markets that have operated have been very strong across the board.
Possibly the highlight has been the sale of mutton which has reached heights rarely, if ever, seen in our part of the world.
Seasonal conditions in the central west are still strong although many graziers have expressed the view that a shower or two would be nice in the not too distant future if only to keep the season moving along.
In my travels north there were very few patches the writer thought were any better than our local environment.
Some staff changes have occurred in recent weeks within our local agencies’ network with some moving on and others gaining a foothold on this great career path.
Adam Barker, who in the past had a successful career in real estate, has returned to his roots in that field at Marrickville after a successful stint with Plasto and Co in Dubbo.
Sam Rynie has joined the staff at Christie and Hood Dubbo and I understand will live in Narromine. Sam has enjoyed a successful stint with the processing side of our business and should bring great insight into the machinations of that side of the industry.
Finally, I understand James Shields has secured a position with P.T Lord Dakin based in Dubbo. While still a very young man, James through his involvement with his father Greg Shields around the yards, seems to have already secured an apprenticeship. We wish all of the above a long and fruitful time in their chosen career paths.
What surely must have become the F1 of the poultry show sales circuit is the 5th annual Dubbo Purebred Poultry auction to be held at the Dubbo Showgrounds on May 6 from 10am.
The sale will consist of 26 lots with bookings received from Bairnsdale, Victoria, to Dalby Queensland, and many locations in between. This in reality is a massive spread of interest proven by the fact that the organisers have confirmed air flight bookings from as far afield as Perth, Western Australia.
Westhaven in Dubbo is the principal beneficiary of the day with all funds raised going to that worthwhile cause.
Catalogues are available from the Dubbo Poultry Club website. Angus Barlow on 0418 638 052 will fill in any missing gaps.
MLA market reporter David Monk reporting on prime cattle sales on Thursday saw a market of wide fluctuation.
In all fairness the quality of the offering left much to be desired.
Western cattle comprised a large percentage of the yarding. To sum up, the good cattle were very good (but there were not many) and the rest lacked quality, conduction, or in some cases both.
Best vealers were up to 15c/kg dearer, while trade and feeder cattle were up to 12c cheaper. Grown steers were firm, cows to 6c back. All in all, all over the shop.
