It’s a three-hour trip for Andrew Bell to bring his dogs from Boggabri to Dubbo but a win like the one delivered by Betty Rumble on Thursday makes it worth it.

The black bitch raced a comfortable 2.5 length win in the Ladbrokes Cash In Stakes at Dawson Park and will be back again next week.
Covering the 516 metres in a time of 30.35 seconds, Betty Rumble will now focus on the race next Friday night, that not only offers $1500 as prizemoney but also entry to a rich $10,000 final a week later.
The Cosmic Rumble x Dulcinea progeny started as $2.30 favourite, with Charlie Lamb’s Lika Show Girl on the second line of betting at $3.60.
However once they jumped out of the boxes, it was all about Betty Rumble. She raced to the front, using the inside line to get the better of Lika Show Girl and Flash Grant (David Grant, $21.50) as they went into the first bend.
The contest was effectively over but the fight for the placings was alive. Hillbilly Casey (Peter Carr, $20.20) advanced to second along the back straight but ran wide coming into the home straight.
It allowed Sista Grant to sneak through and finish second, with Hillbilly Casey holding on for third ahead of Hoppy Keeping.
Bell said he enjoyed the trips to Dubbo and was always pleased to come away with a victory.
“It’s always hard to come to Dubbo and win, the locals are very hard to beat. Even though she was favourite, she still has to come and win the race,” he said.
“Once she got to the lead around the first turn, I thought she’s pretty strong and it was going to take a good dog to run her down.”
Betty Rumble’s future lies in the longer races.
“She’s been to Dubbo before and run a couple of placings over 400 but she was always coming home at the end of 400 metres so that’s why I have stepped to the 500 and it seems to have worked,” Bell said.
“There’s another race over 500 here next week for nought to two wins and she has two now so she should be well-graded for that.”
“There’s $10,000 for the winner too which would be nice.”
