The 19-year-old was selected for the competition after just three years in the modeling industry, and will come up against 25 of the state’s top models as they vie for a place in the Nationals line-up.
Rachel – who has signed with Wink Models Australia in Sydney – said she was initially doubtful of her chances to be selected as a finalist after being unable to attend the first stage of auditions.
Instead, she submitted an absentee application and was shocked to receive a reply.
“When I completed this application I honestly didn’t think I would have made it in,” she said.
“But when receiving a confirmation email to say that I had been selected as a NSW State Finalist I could not believe it!”
The competition will be held in Sydney on April 30 and will involve three sections – bikini, evening wear and personality. Rachel will join women mainly from the Sydney and Newcastle areas as they vie for a spot at Nationals.
Rachel said being selected for the State Finals is already an achievement in itself as she follows in the footsteps of her idol, Jesinta Campbell, the 2010 Miss Universe Australia.
“I have so many anxious feelings about State Finals, but I know when I push myself out of my comfort zone I will make myself very proud,” she said.
“Though I am nervous I know this could lead to many great opportunities for my future so I am very excited for what it has to offer!”
The selection adds to her already long list of accolades including featuring on two posters in Riverdale SHopping Centre for Elle and Vee Boutique, winning the preliminary stage in Dubbo for Miss Country Girl Australia, selection in the top six of Australia’s Next Top Model – Central West, and featuring on the cover for Take 5 Magazine in February.
She hopes her uniqueness makes her a standout from her fellow competitors.
“Every girl in the NSW team that I have met all are beautiful girls that have great individuality that makes them stand out,” she said.
“I hope that my laid-back personality and goofy/fun side can make people laugh and feel relatable.
“ I would like to represent myself to Australia as the girl from Dubbo.
“If I can be myself and encourage girls to chase their dreams no matter the obstacles they encounter on the way I will feel like I have won the competition.”
