The aim of the day is to get 1,000 native trees planted in a single day to boost the health of the Macquarie River in the region around central Dubbo.
Everyone from mums and dads to nans and pops and, in particular, children are invited.
Those wanting to come and lend a hand need to just bring a shovel and a rake, along with a hat, sunscreen, gloves, long pants and boots.
Families are also invited to enjoy a free sausage sizzle after all the planting has been completed, kindly supplied by Dubbo Regional Council.
For anyone who is going to attend, they are asked to meet under the railway bridge at 10am this Sunday, April 2, on the western side of the river, across the river from Riverdale shopping centre.
The volunteer committee of the Inland Waterways invites the local community to help plant the native trees.
The major sponsor Shimano is also coming to the party to help local fishers and environmentally minded members of the community improve around 700 metres of riparian zone which is not at a point of critical river health.
The aim of the day is to get 100 local Dubbo families to plant 10 trees each.
If that is achieved then there will be 1000 new trees planted on the banks of the Macquarie River in just one single day.
The riparian zone is the belt of vegetation immediately aligning with rivers banks and is directly related, and critical to the health of the river.
Native fish such as the iconic Murray Cod, Yellowbelly, and the endangered trout cod can source as much as 40% of their food from the riparian zone.
As well as that, insects and other creatures all form a vital part of the natural food web which resides in the riverbank area.
