And captain Josh Smith has sent a warning to the competition, saying his side won’t rest on its laurels with eyes already set on a fourth next season.
The weekend’s win was the side’s most dominant grand final victory of the past three seasons with Rugby routed for just 65 as Colts scored a 108-run win.
“It’s unreal but we’ll definitely be going for the next one,” Smith said after the win.
“We’ll be going for four and we won’t be settling on three but this same core group has been going through.
“This year we’ve struggled to put together an all-round performance in. We’d been good but the all-round performance was in the grand final.
“That batting was really good and the bowling was awesome.”
With plenty of rain around in the lead-up to the decider, Smith was delighted his side could post 173 after winning the toss and batting on Saturday.
The bowlers then stole the show on Sunday, reducing Rugby to 5-14 at one stage and each of the four bowlers used did a job in destroying the batting lineup.
“Three in a row is unbelievable,” Smith said.
“It’s the same core group of blokes who have been in all three and I couldn’t be happier.”
Earlier on Saturday, the captain led the way, making a gritty 54 in the space of 37 overs while there was further contributions from Aaron Morris (25) and opening bat Lyndon Whitney (23).
The Rugby bowlers kept things tight, having Colts 1-18 after the first 10 and the pressure was kept on for the bulk of the innings.
Captain Glenn Shepherd stood out with 3/27 from 12 overs while spinner Lachie Harper claimed 2/28 from 17.4.
“I was really happy with that because obviously there was some rain round all week and the outfield was slow and I reckon that 170 was 200 plus, 210 and runs on the board in a grand final, there was a lot of pressure on them.
“But they had been batting unreal the last three or four weeks so even down to the last wicket I was still a bit worried but we bowled really tight.”
After getting to 0-4 after five overs the first Rugby wicket fell when Harper was removed by Shane Groen.
From there the wheels fell off completely as Groen (2/7 from eight) and Geoff Wheeler (3/16 from 10) tore through the top order to have Rugby 5/14.
It was always a huge ask from there and Tim Howarth (3/12 from 9.2) and Jakke Gardiner (2/23 from eight) kept the pressure right on and knocked over the lower order to seal an emphatic win.
“We put them right on the back foot,” Smith said.
“It was a great start from ‘Wheels’ (Wheeler) and Shane Groen. All the bowlers bowled well.”
