A $119.90 outsider wins at Bathurst's Gold Crown Carnival

THE decision that Menangle Park trainer Tiarn Sutton made to put off her honeymoon paid dividends at the Bathurst Paceway on Monday - a massive one.

Days after her wedding she loaded the horse float and headed to the third meeting of the Bathurst Harness Racing Club's Gold Crown Carnival on Monday with her four-year-old The Stevedore.

He lined up in the Gold Crown Cocktail Party 24 March Pace (1,730 metres) as a rank $119.90 outsider given his previous 12 starts had failed to produce a win.

His best result was a third placing and he had a tendency to gallop.

But much to the surprise of the crowd - and the trainer herself - the long shot who went from barrier 13 came four wide around the final bend and swept to victory.

And if that was not special enough, The Stevedore was driven by Sutton's father Glenn McElhinney.

The Passmaster Hanover x Miracle Pastime four-year-old gelding clocked a career best 1:58.2 mile rate.

MASSIVE UPSET: Glenn McElhinney drove a $119.90 outsider to victory.
