The Dubbo Rams gave its greatest indication yet this season will be the best in some time on Saturday night.
The side may have still gone down to the Queanbeyan Yowies but a promising performance 11-point loss to one of the real competition powerhouses shows Dubbo is one the right track.
After a quiet couple of matches in the opening two rounds, American import Conrad Etchi exploded on Saturday during his side’s 84-73 loss.
The former Salem International guard dropped 32 points, the best of anyone on either side.
This included a run of seven straight points which got the Rams within six points at one stage in the third quarter.
The Dubbo side got as close as four points late in the fourth quarter but the hosts made the clutch shots when needed.
The Yowies led at each interval, and were up by five after the first quarter.
The lead was stretched to eight points by the main break and when the Yowies went into the final quarter leading by nine it appeared they would run away with it.
But the Rams have a different feel about them this season and rather then roll over, the men in blue lifted and pushed Yowies right to the end.
But with time running down the Rams were forced to foul in the hope of getting the ball back and it wasn’t to be as the Yowies ran out 11-point winners.
After back-to-back away trips, the Rams return home to the Woolshed at Sportsworld this weekend for a clash with the Hawkesbury Jets, a side also without a win so far in 2017.
