Fifty-six students visited Dubbo and Orange as part of the weekend’s tour, which aims to show them what it would be like to study, live and work in a regional area.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase the School of Rural Health’s excellent teaching facilities, but also to show the students that living out west can be a fun, social and rewarding experience,” SRH student recruitment and facilities officer Kiffin Miller said.
The whirlwind tour showed students the teaching facilities, accommodation and the Orange Health Service on Saturday, before giving them the evening to check out Orange’s hospitality hot spots.
On Sunday the students headed to Dubbo, where they were again shown the teaching facilities and accommodation, as well as Macquarie Street.
They were also given a tour of the Royal Flying Doctor Service – those studying in Dubbo would be given the chance to accompany the emergency response team.
“I’m convinced either way, but Dubbo feels like a really welcoming place,” student Domenico de Pieri said.
“Clean air, it’s less intense, no traffic, there’s time to think. It feels good.”
