THE Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) golf squad will test themselves against the best in the state when they tee off in the Peter O’Malley Junior Masters at the Bathurst Golf Club this weekend.

The masters is a major event, with more than 180 juniors taking part and Dubbo youngster Mitchell Bourne is among the WRAS athletes taking part.

Run in conjunction with the masters is the Jack Newton Junior Golf Regional Academy of Sport Challenge, with academies from all over NSW bringing teams of golfers to Bathurst.

“Our team though young are looking forward to the challenge of playing well around their home course,” WRAS head coach, Bruce McLean said.

“I am confident they are well prepared and will acquit themselves well.”

Bourne will be joined by eight other WRAS golfers in the weekend’s competition.
