The pair have been rumoured to be dating ever since Pammy started popping around with vegan treats to the Ecuadorian embassy where Assange has been holed up for almost five years claiming diplomatic asylum following sexual assault and rape allegations in Sweden.

Now Anderson has written a blog post/poem to defend her relationship with Assange/add fuel to the fire/gossip column inches, and it is ... muddled.

Titled My Julian, the poem, published on Anderson's website, includes rather startling lines such as, "Yes - I think he's quite sexy. He has tremendous strength and stamina - though vulnerable."

The florid writing continues with Anderson also stating that the rape allegations against him were "defamation."

"Any time anyone maliciously, or frivolously mentions 'rape' next to his name - they need to understand it is defamation," she writes.

Assange was granted asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2012 following allegations from two women in Sweden of sexual assault and rape. In November last year Assange was interviewed about the allegations by Swedish prosecutors and claimed that he was "entirely innocent."

Anderson also expresses her gratitude to Wikileaks and Assange for their "brave" act standing up to "the big bully in the playground."

"I am forever grateful to all whistle-blowers. (Who risk everything for us.) The world is a safer place because of you," she writes.

It goes on (and on!) before Anderson wraps things up by asserting that she will "always stand by My Julian."

The rumoured relationship between Assange and Anderson, who reportedly met in 2014, has caught the attention of media around the world.

In a radio interview with Kylie and Jackie O last month Assange was suitably coy about the whole thing. He also, as Marina Hyde puts it in The Guardian, showed his precise ability to make a compliment seem undermining when he described Anderson as "an impressive figure. She's an attractive person and an attractive personality and whip-smart. She's no idiot at all - psychologically she's very savvy."

You know, "psychologically."

In response to Sandilands question about whether there was any romance to their vegan t??te-??-t??tes, Assange replied,

"A lot of people want to know that, which I guess is helpful to draw attention to this situation."

Which, well, when you think about stars waning and causes being forgotten and the quality of snacks from visiting luminaries on the decline (no offence to vegans but a doorstopper loaf of, say, vegan banana bread is not quite the same as a lovely something from Harrods, which is quite conveniently around the corner from the Ecuadorian embassy).

As Marina Hyde wrote of Anderson's visits to Assange, "Of course, his social life wasn't always so sparse. Time was Julian had a constant stream of famous visitors at the Knightsbridge-based embassy, who always stopped off at the nearest grocer (Harrods) to pick up something yummy for him. Their significant funds coupled with their significant lack of imagination meant this was almost always a hamper. I was told by one who saw it that his room ended up almost wicker-walled, with Julian always able to produce a potted stilton or some whisky marmalade for Kathy Lette, John Pilger, Yoko Ono or whoever was on the afternoon shift."

All of which, coupled with Anderson's poem, brings about the conclusion that especially in the political climate of late, truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.
