The Barry Lew-trained gelding has scored two wins and a second in three starts since returning from a nine-month spell and according to regular driver Mat Rue, he can get ever better still.

“He just always seems to get the job done,” he said.

“He’s still a late-maturing horse and I don’t think we seen the best of him yet.

“You’d think he could be a metro horse at one stage and I’m sure Barry and Ronda will give him every chance to turn into a horse who can do.”

On Wednesday evening he will line up from gate three in the Crampton’s Carpet Pace (2120m).

Rue was pleased by the draw, with the progeny of Art Major and Karloo Ronnie having started from the back row in two of his last three starts.

Not that it has stopped him.

“At Dubbo last time he made a mid-race run and won pretty well and at Bathurst it was the total opposite,” Rue said.

“He was last and showed a good turn of speed to win.”

There are two other Dubbo hopes in the race with Greg Pay’s Curls Toby, coming off two third-placed finishes lining up from gate two with young gun Tom Pay in the gig.

Nathan Carroll will also drive Dynamic Deejay for his father Michael from gate eight, with the gelding having not won since July of last year.

But Karloo Damajor shapes as the one to catch, with Rue saying he was every chance of making it three straight wins.

“The plan will be to press forward out of the gate and hopefully lead the whole way,” he said.

Jason Turnbull will be in the gig of the other last-start winner in the race.

He will drive Dont Tell Errol, who won at Parkes on March 1.

In terms of the rest of Rue’s night, he has eight drives booked, including two in the gig of his own horses.

Be Good Jeanie will line up in the Two Year Old Pace (1720), having her first start before a crack at the Gold Crown carnival at Bathurst.

Racing starts at 6.02pm.
