Jason Owen said it was “shocking” to see the Sir Ivan fire devastate the region he grew up in and will be doing his part to contribute to the bushfire appeal administered by the Dunedoo Lions Club.
For the next two weeks Jason will donate 100 per cent of profits made from the sale of his album, “Proud”, via iTunes.
In support of the initiative Jason’s record label, Social Family Records, has jumped on board and will match the funds raised until March 14.
“Being a boy from the Central West myself I wanted to help make a difference,” he said.
“It’s fantastic we can donate that money, and to have the record label back me as well is fantastic.”
Jason is also discussing plans to hold a ‘relief concert’ in Dunedoo in the coming months.
“In the meantime I’m working to get the Australian public involved,” he said.
“I’m a boy from the bush, Central West NSW will always be my home.
“I want to get behind the Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal and try get the rest of Australia to back me and support what I’m doing to donate 100 per cent of the profit to the appeal.”
He extended his thoughts to everyone who has been affected by the disaster, adding the funds raised will help locals and farmers get back on their feet with the basic essentials, as well as helping them get back to work and assisting with their livestock.
“My condolences to everyone who has lost even one thing, to everything,” he said.
“Some people have lost minimal, and others have lost absolutely everything.
“All my love from my family and I hope I can make a difference to help these guys on their farms, whether it be with their houses, their stock, roads or fencing.
“I really want to cover the basis and do as much as I can for all the areas affected.
“It’s horrific.”
Upward of 50,000 hectares were burnt in the fire that devastated the Central West over the weekend of February 12.
It destroyed 35 homes and damaged everything in its path.
