Sharon Dixon’s class of 11 and 12-year-old students rallied the school in support of the fire victims.
On Wednesday the class ran a “mufti day” with a country and western theme. Every participant, from pre-kindergarten to Year 12, handed over a gold coin. They were placed around pavement art featuring “helping hands” reaching out to “our friends on the land”.
Ms Dixon reported of plenty of “farm children in our class and particularly in our school”. “It was really poignant for us to be fundraising for farmers who have been affected by this tragedy,” she said. Student Representative Council member Nicholas Croker,11, called the efforts of the class “noble” and encouraged it to keep up the fundraising for the fire victims. “It’s going to take a lot of money to help them,” he said. The class will send the money to the NSW Country Women’s Association for distribution.
