The Australia Post Regional Pitchfest launches next Monday. It allows people with business ideas to pitch them in front of a live audience to a stage of judges in Dubbo.
Pitchfest founder Dianna Somerville said the winner of the NSW competition would be awarded $5,000, and progress to the national finals for a chance to win an additional $7000 cash to kick-start their business as well as a trip to Silicon Valley.
“We want the people who are tinkering away in the back shed or on the kitchen table once the kids have gone to school. It’s your time to shine now,” Ms Somerville said.
Ms Somerville, who runs a startup business herself, said she started Pitchfest because she knew people from regional areas couldn’t up and leave their jobs for six months to develop their idea.
“The first event I ran out of Wagga. I worked 240 hours and paid myself $260 so it was very much a labour of love but I was very satisfied at the end of the event. It was completely fulfilling,” she said.
A duo who made the finals last year for their golfing app had just been picked up by the PGA Tour in the United States, Ms Sommerville said.
