Club Dubbo was the place to be for the city’s bowlers on Sunday as West Dubbo played host to Dubbo City in the ninth annual Harold Giddings Shield contest.

More than 56 bowlers from each club took part in the prestigious event, with competition played over an impressive 13 rinks.
The conditions were ideal and it was a great opportunity for players to have a roll before pennants, which starts this weekend, while also battling for the silverware.
After each rink, playing a gruelling 21 ends, the final score was 276-234 in favour of West Dubbo.
Lifting the shield is a much sought-after honour for both clubs, as Giddings was a proud member of at Club Dubbo and West Dubbo before passing away at 86 in 2009.
He played his championships at West Dubbo while he also won numerous other bowls titles there at the club between 1971 and 1999.
He is also on the honour board for the Far West district and Zone 4 championships, after years of competing.
The shield first started in 2009 following his passing.
West Dubbo won the title from the first four editions of the competition while City had won the last four years.
The win for West was made all the more sweet on the weekend knowing City had held the shield for so long.
The pennants season begins this Friday night, with the West Dubbo and Dubbo City number one teams kicking things off with their game being played out under lights at Club Dubbo from 6pm.
Spectators are most welcome to come along to watch from the sidelines as the big guns play out what should be high-quality battle.
