This year’s slogan is “we need to talk” and Dubbo and NSW Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer co-ordinator Wayne Amor said although the 1 Dayer ride is only for one day, mental health is something that we should all feel comfortable talking about.
When he first took part in the Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer, Mr Amor didn’t realise he had a personal connection to mental health and suicide.
“It just wasn’t something immediately obvious to me,”he said.
“It wasn’t until everything settled down and I had a thought about it that I realised I lost colleagues to suicide and that my brother was going through some mental health issues.”
The Dubbo 1 Dayer Black Dog Ride will begin its ride at the Macquarie Inn on Sunday, March 19 at 7:30am, for riders to check in and have breakfast.
Mr Amor said there were already riders form across the central west and further afield that had already pre-registered to ride in the Dubbo 1 Dayer.
“A majority of our pre-registered riders come from Dubbo, but there’s also some from Coonamble, Walgett, even Moree and the Central Coast and Sydney,” he said.
From Dubbo the ride will go to Wellington, and will return to Dubbo about 12pm.
Mr Amor encouraged riders to register at blackdogride.com.au, before the 1 Dayer event, so to go into the draw to win a new Indian Scout motorbike valued at $19,995.
He said he wanted to thank all of the businesses for their support with sponsorship and allowing them to put up posters and signage.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australian’s under the age of 45 and takes 8 Australian lives every day.
