So are GPs and specialists wanting to make confident diagnoses.
The new MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine at Orana Radiology is described as “clearer, wider and faster”.
The 3T Siemens MRI machine arrived in Dubbo in January and got a tick of approval from federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton on Thursday.
Orana Radiology practice manager Jonathan Lowe pointed out the features of the machine, the “only rebated MRI in the greater western region to bulk bill patients”.
Mr Coulton responded with a pat on the back for Healthcare Imaging Services, with 140 sites in Australia including Orana Radiology.
“It’s another tool we have now in Dubbo and the western region, so that people can get the same level of treatment and diagnosis as elsewhere,” he said.
Healthcare Imaging Services reports that the magnetic power of the new machine is “double” that of others in the region.
“A stronger magnet delivers a clearer image,” its spokeswoman said
The machine has a wider opening than its predecessor at Orana Radiology and can handle patients weighting up to 250 kilograms.
“Exclusive technology allows for faster, more efficient exams and less wait time for patients,” the spokeswoman said.
The machine’s open bore design is reported to help prevent “that closed-in feeling”.
Currently, up to 30 patients a day are receiving MRI examinations at Orana Radiology.
Healthcare Imaging Services state manager Matt Ayers said the 3T Siemens MRI provided the latest technology in quality imaging services to patients in Dubbo and the greater western region.
“The patient experience is faster scan times, in a more comfortable environment,” he said. “Further, the design of the MRI alleviates concerns for patients in enclosed spaces. “This $2 million investment by Orana Radiology delivers accessible premium radiology and nuclear medicine services to the community.”
