Committee president Jack Anderson and member Gary Braithwaite were involved in the meeting to discuss the placement of trees at Sir Roden Cutler Park.
The ultimate aim of the committee is to get a music bowl built in the park but while that plan still remains uncertain, the council's plans to improve the park are welcome, Mr Braithwaite said.
"We've been pretty patient, waited four years for people to give us a hand with it and the meeting was very positive, we feel we are getting somewhere," he said.
"The trees will enhance the park for people who want to use it and this way, even if the music bowl isn't built in five years, at least people will have trees to sit under.and enjoy.
Mr Braithwaite said the plans by council included a number of established and young trees around the park, potentially including an avenue ot trees along Sir Roden Cutler Drive and the Tracker Riley Cycleway.
He said there had been a lot of support and sponsorship from people within the community who wanted to see a music bowl built and the committee would continue to work towards their goal.
