The proposal was put to the public last year and the majority of responses from residents were against the idea. There is no doubt that such a fee would be burden on our customers especially those from outside Dubbo as a taxi or a drop off from friends or family is not always an option. With the increase in passenger numbers and the introduction of new air routes revenue from landing fees at the airport has increased meaning there is no critical need to introduce a parking fee. We also want to do everything possible to encourage the use of the airport and to support carriers to ensure that business at the airport continues to grow.
Emergency exercise
We all know that Wellington Caves is an excellent place to take the family to explore the underground but it has also proven to be the perfect training ground for emergency services. At the weekend Wellington-based emergency services and Caves staff took part in an emergency response exercise designed to test their preparedness and competency. The exercise was designed to simulate a mass casualty incident with visitors trapped in the Cathedral Cave under an earthquake scenario. Police from Wellington, NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Ambulance Service, SES, Wellington Caves Staff, Dubbo Regional Council, and volunteers combined forces to carry out the "mock" emergency response of a cave collapse. Wellington High School students also played their part in the exercise in the role of the injured people requiring rescue. It is fantastic that there is such a site where these important exercises can be carried out. Council is committed to providing the best training for the community in order to be able to respond critical incidents.
CAT Awards
Congratulations to everyone at the DRTCC for delivering an excellent night of entertainment when the CATS Awards came to Dubbo. This was the first time in 22 years that the awards have been held anywhere but Canberra so it was a great privilege for the DRTCC to be asked to host the night and it certainly rose to the occasion. The theatre continues to deliver quality programing for everyone with a range of shows in the line-up. No matter what your tastes are there is something for everyone and I’d encourage everyone to take a look at the shows in the 2017 season.
Classics at the drive-in
After much suspense the program for the weekend at the drive-in has now been revealed as a collection of classic movies that are sure to bring back memories for a lot of people. With two sessions on Friday and Saturday and one on Sunday there is something for everyone in the line-up from kids to adults. A lot of hard work by the Youth Council and Council staff and local businesses has already gone into preparing for the big weekend and I know the excitement is growing for the public. This is an excellent example of how much can be achieved when people work together for a common goal. Tickets will be available to purchase by Friday and I would suggest to everyone that they get in quick as there has been interest from right across the state and the tickets are sure to be snapped up quickly. And remember that tickets must be purchased online prior to the event as there are no tickets available at the gate.
