There were 49 development applications approved in Dubbo in January, worth an estimated value of more than $12 million. During the same time period last year there were 44 development applications approved by council, to the value of $10.6 million.
The 2017 figure is down from December 2016 when there were 58 development applications given the green light.
However, council’s director environmental services Melissa Watkins said the figures were as expected.
“Activity is holding steady. We normally see a bit of an increase in December and then a slight decline in January which is typical of what we’ve seen for the least 12 or 13 years,” she said.
Large applications were still being lodged she said, and while housing figures were slowing slightly, Ms Watkins said she didn’t believe there was anything to worry about at this stage.
In January there were 20 single dwellings approved, as well as 10 applications for garages or carports. There was also a $155,650 application for a retail building approved, and a $4.8 million warehouse.
For the financial year to date more than $106 million in applications have been approved by council. In total 442 have been given the tick, slightly lower than the 474 which had been approved between July 2015 and January 2016.
Meanwhile, Wellington has seen a great jump in application figures, and Ms Watkins said it showed Wellington was “heading in the right direction”.
Eleven development applications were approved for the town in December, worth more than $1.3 million, and a further five were approved in January to the tune of almost $86,000.
The applications were comprised of two for pools or spas, two for a garage or carport and one for a dwelling.
