NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards
A vital part of all communities are seniors. Seniors help make our local communities stronger and better.
The NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards are an opportunity to recognise and thank a senior for everything they do in the community. I am calling on people to nominate seniors who are making a real difference to the lives of those around them.
Seniors are valued and respected members of our community. Whether it is volunteering for a charity, lending a helping hand to a local sporting club or caring for a loved one, older Australians do so much to make our families and communities stronger
I’m encouraging those wishing to nominate a senior to contact his electorate office on 6882 3577 or email Dubbo@parliament.nsw.gov.au, nominations close at 5pm Friday 3rd March 2017.

Bushfires
We saw the worst for Mother Nature last weekend. Catastrophic fire danger was recorded in many parts of the state.
Heading into the weekend, the Commissioner of the Rural Fire Service, Shane Fitzsimmons, warned the conditions were as bad as it gets. Despite these conditions we’ve also seen the very best from our firefighters, and the community, in very difficult conditions.
To further assist those affected in recent Bushfires we have announced in conjunction with Federal Minister for Justice Michael Keenan that disaster assistance has been made available for affected communities across the state through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
Many communities have been severely affected by the bushfires over the weekend.
The Australian and NSW governments have acted quickly to ensure affected people have access to much needed disaster assistance to support their recovery.
The seven local government areas receiving NDRRA assistance in response to the bushfires include: Kempsey, Mid Coast, Mid-Western Regional, Narrabri, Port Macquarie-Hastings, Upper Hunter, and Warrumbungle. This assistance includes:
- Help for eligible people whose homes or belongings have been damaged;
- Support for affected local councils to help with the costs of cleaning up and restoring damaged essential public assets;
- Concessional interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations;
- Freight subsidies for primary producers; and
- Grants to non-profit organisations.
For information on personal hardship and distress assistance, contact the Disaster Welfare Assistance Line on 1800 018 444. To apply for a concessional loan, grant or freight subsidy, contact the NSW Rural Assistance Authority on 1800 678 593 or visit www.raa.nsw.gov.au.
Further information on disaster assistance is available on the Australian Government’s Disaster Assist website disasterassist.gov.au and the New South Wales emergency information and response website at www.emergency.nsw.gov.au.
