For the second year in a row it has been named among the charities vying for $5000 in prize money as part of the TAB Editors’ Challenge run in conjunction with the Country Championships.
Editors in country communities that host qualifiers choose charities to receive the $5000 should winning horses from their local races be first past the post in the final.
The Western Districts Country Championships qualifier will be held at Dubbo Turf Club on Sunday.
In 2016 editor of the Daily Liberal Brian O’Flaherty chose the Rotary Club of Dubbo that was in the process of raising almost $48,000 for an ultrasound machine for Dubbo Hospital’s Emergency Department.
The club was among seven charities that missed out on the $5000 but received a gift of $500 each from the TAB.
In 2017 the club is looking to raise about $50,000 to beautify and improve access to the North Terramungamine Reserve.
