Last weekend after driving along the highway past the Uarbry fire and all seemed well. By the time I had got to Merriwa the wind had picked up and was blowing pretty fiercely. By the time we got back, the highway had been closed and we were diverted through Coolah. We made it home but others weren’t so lucky.
I have the greatest admiration for all the men and women who give their time and energy to fighting these fires. They are true blue Australians of the Year. And I’m sure you join with me in extending my sincerest sympathy to those who lost stock, crops, homes, possessions and property. It’s mighty hard to get back after a drubbing like that. But it can be done. With Aussies behind you, nothing is impossible.
