INLAND RAIL SURVEYS
Over the next six to eight weeks ARTC will be conducting a LiDAR survey as part of the assessment process for the proposed Inland Rail corridor. Inland Rail is a new 1700km freight rail connection between Melbourne and Brisbane via regional New South Wales and Queensland that will see freight delivered on this route in less than 24 hours. A LiDAR survey involves using survey marks on the ground and an aircraft to capture the data. This survey work will help ARTC to get a better understanding of the ground conditions and the area in general for these projects. For further information on Inland Rail please visit the website at www.inlandrail.com.au or phone 1800 732 761.

BACK TO BUSINESS
Back to Business Week is a NSW Government initiative created to celebrate small businesses and acknowledge the critical role they play in local communities. Back to Business Week will run from 26 February to 4 March, in recognition of the leading role small businesses play in training, educating and creating jobs in local communities, while producing a wide range of outstanding products and services. Small businesses are the driving force of our economy, generating growth, innovation and jobs. More than 690,000 small businesses in our State make up almost 98 per cent of all businesses. They employ almost half of the entire NSW workforce and pay more than $47 billion in annual wages. About 32 per cent of NSW small businesses are located in regional NSW. A number of events are organised as part of this week, both in person and online in webinars. Go to: industry.nsw.gov.au/backtobusiness
HAVE YOUR SAY ON WEED MANAGEMENT
Local Land Services is encouraging interested individuals and organisations to have their say on the draft Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan for their region. The plans will guide resource allocation and investment in each region and will provide a consistent basis for regional planning and delivery. The Biosecurity Act 2015 adopts the concept of a general biosecurity duty. It means that anyone who is aware of a potential risk should take all reasonable and practical measures to minimise or eliminate that risk.
The primary outcome of the weed reform process will be the integration of weed management efforts across the State. For the first time in NSW, there will be a set of agreed priorities and actions which apply across both public and private land. Increased collaboration in the management of weeds will improve biosecurity outcomes and increase agricultural productivity. The plans for Central West, Western and North West regions are available at http://open.lls.nsw.gov.au/ and submissions can be made online until 8 March. Copies of the regional plans, factsheets, frequently asked questions, and feedback forms are available on the Local Land Services Open website.
OUT AND ABOUT
Parliament resumes this week and I am keen to get into a number of issues with a refreshed leadership and cabinet team. I will however be leaving Parliament for the day on Wednesday and visiting Dunedoo to liaise with the authorities on the difficulties we’re facing from the Sir Ivan fire.
THUMBS UP
Thumbs up to the Emergency Services volunteers who worked tirelessly over the weekend to save property from fires in our electorate in catastrophic conditions, and a particularly big shout out to crews who are continuing to work on fires in the Warrumbungle Shire. We have already seen houses, machinery, stock and crops lost and we expect further losses to become clear over the coming days. Emergency Services do an outstanding job and pass on my sincere thanks for their service. We are all feeling for those who have suffered losses in the fire, in particularly the community of Uarbry and send our thoughts and best wishes.
