The blaze that threatened the outskirts of Narromine this afternoon has been fully contained following a quick response from emergency services.
RFS media liaison officer, Matt Horwood, the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage but fortunately didn’t cause any damage to the town.
“They’re still out there with a grader and bulk water units from council but it looks like they’ve got a good handle on it,” he said.
“It was close to the town but we don’t believe there was any property damage or anything threatened.”
The initial ‘Watch and Act’ message has been downgraded to an ‘Advice’ message as crews are focusing on mopping up and blacking out the fire.
As of 1pm the temperature sat at 42.9 degrees with 12 per cent humidity, with winds of 46km/h from the west gusting up to 70km/h.
Matt said it’s a dangerous combination.
“What we're seeing at the moment is strengthening of the wind, not only becoming stronger but gusting a lot stronger as well and that’s pushing fire danger in the grass to ‘severe’ and to ‘catastrophic’ in forested areas,” he said.
“It’s a timely reminder that fires can occur and potentially will occur today.”
