With $3500 in prize money on offer, the annual Dubbo Track Open attracts a star studded field of riders, while junior riders from across the state will battle it out to be named NSW individual time trial champion, sprint derby champion and scratch race champion in the under-9, under-11 and under-13 divisions.
Dubbo Cycle Club will have a strong representation at both the Open Carnival and Championships, with Georgia Farr, Zac, Jessica, Makayla and Imogen Fuller, Trent and Emily Hines, Ella Mann, Isabelle, Louis and Tom Russell and Tom Williamson contesting the State Championships.
Danny Barber, Jason Canobie, Hayden Carroll, Lachie Clark, Chris Couper, Darryl Cumming, Tim Dawson, Dylan and Kurt Eather, Jason Farr, Luke Ensor, Sam Fitzgerald, Haylee and Zara Fuller, Sarah Gordon, Mitch and Timmy Hines, Adam Mitchell, Alex Russell, Heather and Michael Ticehurst, Darrell and Brodie Wheeler and Bill Williamson will ride in the Senior Track Open.
The Dubbo Track Open will be split into under-15 and under-17 divisions, as well as four senior divisions.
The jewel in the crown of the Dubbo Track Open is the coveted Cliff Hazell Memorial Wheelrace (five laps), which is this year sponsored by Northern Region Couriers – a business owned by Cliff’s son, Stephen.
The 2016 Cliff Hazell Memorial Wheelrace was taken out by Nick Edwards and with some strong nominations in the senior carnival, it is expected the race will again be another fast and exciting affair.
Now in its 17th year, the Cliff Hazell Memorial Wheelrace is named in honour of the former Dubbo Cycle Club committeemen, who held several positions of office over many years of service to the club.
The carnival will also include, among a stack of events, two scratch races, a handicap race, a keirin, Wheelrace qualifying heats and of course the feature Wheelrace.
Among the bumper amount of class entries is recent NSW elite men’s time trial champion Harrison Carter.
As well as Carter, talented young sprinter Harry Bryant, World Masters Track Champion Renee Covington, NSW Under-17 State Pursuit Champion Ashlee Jones and National Masters Track Championship place getter, Darryl Thorncraft, are all set to be in attendance.
The NSW under-9 to under-13 State Junior Track Championships will commence at 2pm on Saturday afternoon and continue at 9am on Sunday morning, while the Dubbo Track Open will commence at 4pm on Saturday evening at Victoria Park No. 1 Oval.
