A batch of Dubbo Cycle Club’s most exciting youngsters travelled to the Dunc Grey Velodrome on the weekend, with Luke Ensor, Brodie Wheeler and Zara Fuller joining the four eventual NSW riders.
Dylan Eather and Barber were chosen in the NSW under-15 squad while Hayley Fuller was named in the women’s 15s and Kurt Eather scored selection in the state under-17 team.
Dylan Eather was the most dominant rider of the Championships, winning all five under-15 men’s events against a strong line-up of riders, which included talented Dubbo teammate Barber.
Eather was victorious in the 500m time trial (36.333 seconds), keirin, 2000m individual pursuit (2 minutes 32.759 seconds), 20 lap scratch race and sprint derby, putting his hand up as an automatic selection in the NSW squad for the National Junior Track Championships in late February.
Barber, who continues to develop in leaps and bounds, was brilliant in bringing home four silver medals and a bronze medal and reaffirmed his position as one of the state’s best up and coming riders.
The talented youngster finished second in the 500m time trial (37.470 seconds), keirin final, sprint derby final, 2000m individual pursuit (2 minutes 37.054 seconds) and was third in the under-15 20 lap scratch race.
Haylee Fuller added another silver medal to her large collection of cycling awards after finishing second in a highly competitive under-15 women’s 2000m individual pursuit.
Kurt Eather was again brilliant in the under-17s and won the 2000m individual pursuit (2 minutes 19.550 seconds), sprint derby final and keirin final, while he was second in the 500m time trial (34.968 seconds) and fourth in the 30 lap scratch race.
Luke Ensor finished third in the under-17 men’s 30 lap scratch race and recorded top ten finishes in the remaining events. Eather and Ensor also claimed gold in the under-17 Madison championships, after they finished third in the event at last year’s Championships.
Zara Fuller was competitive in the under-15 women’s division and posted some solid results, while Brodie Wheeler continues to improve and enjoyed some promising results in the under-15 men’s division.
The NSW under-15 and under-17 squads will race at the Cycling Australia National Junior Track Championships on February 25-26.
