Among the crowd will be three Dubbo nominees, including Allyn Smith who will perform on the night. Mr Smith will also be “MC in the VIP room” for the likes of actor John Wood, entrepreneur Michael Edgley, entertainer Simon Gallaher and TV stars Craig Bennett and Maggie Kirkpatrick. A founder of the awards, Coralie Wood OAM, said the black-tie event would be Dubbo’s version of “a big Oscars night”. The gala event, interspersed with performances including a tribute to the late Jon English, will acknowledge non-professional performers in groups, schools and colleges in Canberra and dozens of NSW communities. Dubbo’s “beautiful” theatre supported the decision to move the event from Canberra to a regional community for the first time, Ms Wood said. Tickets are available at Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre. Visit www.catawards.com.au for more information.
