Maximum daily temperatures are set to remain above 30 degrees for the rest of the week, according to Bureau of Meteorology forecasts, with a peak on Tuesday of 37 degrees.
Some rain (up to eight millimetres) is highly likely on Tuesday and Wednesday and will bring slightly milder temperatures before the mercury climbs back to 35 degrees for the weekend.
It’s prompted the South Eastern Section of the Royal Flying Doctor Service to remind people about the dangers of heat stress.
“Heat stress is Australia's number one natural killer, accounting for the deaths of more Australians than floods, cyclones, bushfires and storms combined,” senior flight nurse Karen Barlow said.
“Last year was officially the hottest on record in Australia so we need to be prepared to counter heat stress.”
The RFDS has recommended limiting exercise or outdoor activity during very hot conditions and consuming plenty of water.
