News reader Vanessa O’Hanlon was in the city on Monday ahead of next month’s launch of a dedicated Nine News Central West bulletin.
Ms O’Hanlon will present the one-hour edition each week night from February 20.
Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) in conjunction with affiliate partner the Nine Network is bringing the new offering to Dubbo and Orange audiences.
It is one of 15 regional bulletins of Nine News rolling out from early 2017 and takes the network head-to-head with WIN and Prime for local news viewers in the ACT, southern NSW, regional Victoria and Queensland.
The Nine News Central West bulletin would be comprehensive, with local, national and international news and sport, and local weather, Ms O’Hanlon said.
They would have reporters and camera operators on the ground in Dubbo and Orange, she said.
“It’s really exciting to get out and tell local stories and to be able to add them not only into a local component but also to add it into the national and international news as well, plus sport and weather,” Ms O’Hanlon said.
“So we’ve got one comprehensive bulletin together, which I’m really proud of and excited to be part of.”
Ms O’Hanlon was the ABC’s national weather presenter before taking on the new position with Channel Nine, announced late last year.
She has also previously worked in regional and remote areas of Australia.
