Trained by Dubbo’s Bob Tyack, Billy Bent Ear (Michael Hackett, $5) came charging home in the Parkes Telescope Tyres & Batteries Class 2 Plate (800m) to overhaul Gillie Mooch (Greg Ryan, $2.60 favourite) in the last stride with Mr Swift (Nyssa Burrells, $4) a close third.
Greg Ryan missed out in that photo finish however he earlier rode a winning double when guiding Eagles Dare and Jar Of Hearts to victory.
From Mark Jones’ stable at Dubbo, Eagles Dare led most of the way in the O’Brien Glass Class 2 Handicap (1400m).
With Ryan in the saddle, the $2.40 favourite beat home stablemate Nordic Noir (Ken Dunbar, $15) by more than two lengths while Handful Of Aces (Kaylee Kirkwood, $7), was third.
The win was Eagles Dare’s second from 19 starts, while it was his first in five starts for Jones.
Jar Of Hearts continued his good run of form for Mudgee trainer Cameron Crockett when winning the Tony's Windscreens Benchmark 55 Handicap (1200m).
Another favourite ridden by Ryan, Jar Of Hearts scored by a neck from pacemaker Alone With You (Brendan Ward, $10) with Kyle Kennedy’s Shadow Affair (Allan Chau, $10) back in third.
Former rugby league trainer Terry Fahey has only recently moved his training stable to Wellington but it already appears to be paying off after Enduring took out the Parkview Motor Inn Maiden Handicap (1200m).
The mare jumped as a well-supported $2.30 favourite and didn’t disappoint.
Jockey Daniel Pitomac set the pace and the cleared out in the straight to win by more than five lengths from Western Parade (Allan Chau, $3.30 ) and Polson (Brendan Ward, $5 ).
Other winners at the successful seven-race meeting, Parkes’ first since a wild storm destroyed parts of the grandstand, were the Greg Gooch-trained Turbo Charger (Brendan Ward, $4.80), the Todd Smart’s Tip Jar (Jason Devrimol, $9) from Wagga, and Dream Empress (Tony Cavallo,$5.50) from the Alison Smith stable at Orange.
