Kerr finished with 6/28 from six overs as Macquarie was bowled out for 93 at Lady Cutler 1.
Despite a couple of nervy moments in the run chase the Tigers reached the target for the loss of five wickets.
The win for Newtown, combined with Souths’ loss to Rugby, saw the Tigers move off the foot of the ladder and within two points of the top three.
After the rain late last week, Newtown won the toss and opted to bowl and it paid off as Dale O’Donnell removed Luke Patis (3).
The Tigers bowlers kept chipping away and had had the Blues 2-36 after 15 and then Kerr entered the attack.
He claimed two wickets in his first over and then charged through the Blues lower order. He finished with a rare six-fa as the Blues fell short of 100.
The Blues needed early wickets to be any chance and Emma Hughes struck twice in side eight overs.
Kerr came to the crease and guided his side towards the total, hitting one six and three boundaries in his knock of 42.
He fell to Shane Dupille (2/25) but the Tigers still eased to the total inside 30 overs.
RSL-Colts extended its lead at the top of the ladder with a hard-fought four-wicket win over CYMS.
There was solid contributions all-round from the Colts players, who now lead by eight points at the top.
Josh Smith took 3/16 late on after he had won the toss and bowled, while Sam Campbell and Jakke Gardiner struck twice as CYMS was dismissed for 158. Cougars captain Gavin Weekes top-scored with 38 while Heath Larance (33) and Thomas Saul (28) also chipped in.
Yogi Chawla struck early during Colts’ innings and then three quick wickets around the halfway point of the chase gave the Cougars hope.
But after Lyndon Whitney (35) dug in early, Gardiner hit his side towards victory with 43 from number six.
He fell to Brandon Dodd, CYMS’ best with 2/18 from seven, but Colts won with nine balls to spare.
A fine spell from the demoted Blake Watmore and a captain’s knock from Zac Murphy helped Rugby defeat South Dubbo by two wickets at Pioneer.
After Souths opted to bat, Watmore, who had been opening the bowling in the RSL-Whitney Cup, struck twice early on his way to finishing with 3/20 from eight.
Angus McDonald and Jason Coyle struck twice for Rugby while Mick McCarthy (36), Tristan Wood (23) and Graham Robinson (21) all made starts in Souths’ total of 9/147 from 40 overs.
Rugby were in real trouble at 4/41 in reply but Murphy knuckled down in the middle order, combining well with Nick Karydis (14) and Watmore (20) in key partnerships.
Murphy finished unbeaten on 68 while Angus Cusack (3/29) and Jack Lenord (3/22) were Souths’ best.
