Athletes at the start of their career through to those who have plenty of experience were at the Athletics NSW Country Championships at Barden Park.

The youngest athlete that lined up was just nine years old, according to officials, while one competitor in their 90s also took part.
“That’s the interesting thing about athletics,” Athletics NSW board member and meeting manager for the Dubbo tournament Peter Higgins said.
“It’s not one sport. You have about 15. You have all the track events and then a variety of field events from long jump to javelin and it lends itself to almost anyone competing.
“It doesn’t matter age or body shape, there’s something for everyone.”

“In a 3000-metre race we had 12 year olds racing with the older guys and it was good to see all those age groups competing,” she said.
“They are running their own race but all in there together and they have turned out because they love athletics.”
